Singapore Chinatown Lantern Project: 2021 Ox Year Street Light-Up
For Singapore Chinatown’s 2021 Chinese New Year light-up, Star Factory Lantern developed approved designs for production, manufactured and exported the lanterns and decorations, and sent two specialists to support local installation and maintenance training.
We manufactured and delivered 477 pieces for five project groups: 90 illuminated lantern units and 387 decorative elements. Our work connected production engineering, factory manufacture and export delivery with technical support for the Singapore installation team.
A coordinated Chinese New Year street display
The light-up combined a golden ox landmark, zodiac figures, suspended decorations and smaller street scenes across Chinatown. During COVID-19 travel and site-access restrictions, we coordinated production, packing and technical support with the Singapore team to prepare the displays for local assembly.
These figures describe the full public event. Our delivery comprised 90 illuminated lantern units and 387 decorative elements.
Production, export delivery and support on site
Our production package covered five groups: Success, Harvest, Diligence, Centerpiece and Photo Spot. We developed the approved concepts into lantern structures, manufactured the displays, prepared them for export and supported assembly with the local crew in Singapore.

Large lanterns built for shipping and assembly
Factory production for this order ran from November 23 to December 22, 2020. We divided the centerpiece and route displays into numbered steel-frame sections, then completed the surfaces, wiring and checks before packing them for sea freight and reassembly in Singapore.
We planned frame divisions, connection points, lighting zones and packing order together. This helped preserve the finished shape while giving the receiving crew a clear assembly sequence and access for servicing.
For comparable projects, our factory-direct lantern production process starts with venue dimensions, viewing distance, weather exposure, local regulations, access conditions, destination, and installation responsibilities.
Bringing local design concepts into production
Students from Singapore University of Technology and Design contributed zodiac concepts for the Chinatown light-up. We developed the organizer-approved drawings into steel structures, lighting layouts, finished surfaces and transport sections while retaining the character of the designs.
Local cultural and visual input
The organizer and student designers shaped the event theme, cultural message, and cartoon-style zodiac interpretations for the Chinatown audience.
Engineering the approved designs
Our team planned the frames, lighting, weatherproof silk finishes, separable sections and packing labels, together with drawings and assembly information for installation.
Plan lighting, installation and maintenance together
For this outdoor display, we used the specified weatherproof silk and high-density LED arrays. Lighting layouts were coordinated across the route, with circuits divided into zones that the site team could reach and service.
Numbered sections, packing records and drawings gave the local crew a practical installation sequence. Our two specialists worked with the crew on assembly details and trained staff to maintain the completed displays.

Our specialists worked alongside the Singapore crew on assembly and technical details, then trained staff in routine maintenance of the completed displays.
