Thursford Christmas Lanterns: Design & Production, 2020–2022
Star Factory Lantern designed and manufactured Thursford Christmas lanterns across three consecutive years: 2020, 2021, and 2022. This project brings together our creative design work and lantern-making craftsmanship for a seasonal visitor attraction.

Thursford’s Christmas lantern experience
Warm, colorful lights, handcrafted figures, and illuminated pathways turn a seasonal visit into an immersive experience. The attraction of a Christmas lantern trail is not just an individual display: it is the way scenes unfold as families and visitors walk through a festive setting.
Thursford’s Enchanted Journey of Light combines indoor fantasy scenes with an outdoor lantern attraction. This light experience is distinct from the venue’s Christmas Spectacular stage show. For current visiting information, use the official event website.

Festive storytelling through form and light
Designing Christmas lantern displays
The design goal is to bring warmth and joy into a coherent festive environment. Twinkling reindeer, snowflakes, giant candy canes, and glowing Santa figures offer familiar Christmas imagery, while animal and fantasy lanterns can expand the experience beyond a conventional holiday scene.
Creative directions for a festive trail
- Giant Christmas trees with glowing ornaments.
- Reindeer lanterns and Santa’s sleigh compositions.
- Snowflake arches with a winter-wonderland atmosphere.

How we approached lantern design and production
Making a Christmas lantern combines creative development with careful craftsmanship. Our artisans shape the character and decorative details, from expressive animal forms to seasonal patterns. Lighting helps reveal those details and establish the warmth, color, and mood of a display.
From a theme to a lantern design
Silhouette, proportions, surface detail, and color work together to make each figure recognizable. The individual form also needs to belong within the larger visual story.
From design to a finished illuminated form
Production turns the approved visual direction into a physical lantern. Craftsmanship and lighting bring the structure and decorative surfaces together into the finished effect.
For the Thursford work in 2020–2022, design and manufacturing were our responsibility. On-site installation was outside our scope. For new projects, agree the design, production, delivery, and installation responsibilities separately through the custom lantern project service process.
