At Chiswick House and Gardens, illuminated landmarks, seasonal scenes and walk-through features turned the historic grounds into a winter light trail.
The London setting
A winter light trail through the house, lake and gardens
Lightopia opened at Chiswick House and Gardens on 22 January 2020 and ran until 1 March. The route took visitors through the grounds after dark, combining traditional Chinese lantern displays with illuminated animals, seasonal scenes and interactive light installations.

Landmarks for viewing, movement and photography
In these photographs, large illuminated forms act as long-distance landmarks, while smaller scenes and walk-through features invite visitors to slow down and take photographs.
The house, trees and planted landscape remain visible around the installations. In a historic garden, the lights need enough presence to guide visitors without making every part of the route feel the same.
